Hello, my name is Paul Rybarczyk, and I am president of Vista Systems and the designer and author of RenderBoy. This READ ME file contains general information about RenderBoy which answers the following questions:
• What is RenderBoy all about?
• How is RenderBoy distributed?
• What is included in the RenderBoy package?
• Which copy of RenderBoy should I run on my Mac?
• How do I register and what does it cost?
• How do I report bugs or request enhancements?
• Can I distribute RenderBoy to others?
• What is the revision history of RenderBoy?
What is RenderBoy all about?
RenderBoy is an integrated solids based 3D modeler and photo-realistic "ray-tracing" renderer for MacOS computers. What does that mean? Well, using RenderBoy's simple graphic user interface, you can design a 3D model in a truly what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) point&click fashion. You can specify how your models should look (dull, shiny, mirrored, color, texture, etc) and add working light sources to illuminate your design. Then, in one step, you tell RenderBoy to "render" it, which means create a photo-realistic image (or even an animation!) by mathematically tracing the rays of light around your design. You will get shading, shadows, refelections, refractions, glinty spots, even fog, and all of this is 100% automatic.
To see an example, start the RenderBoy application and choose "About RenderBoy" from the Apple menu. This is not a photograph! This image was designed and rendered, exactly as you see it, using RenderBoy!
How is RenderBoy distributed?
The RenderBoy package is distributed in five folders, both on the internet and on shareware CD-ROM's. This "REAM ME" document is included in each folder. Each folder is distributed as a "binhexed Stuffit" file which can be expanded to its original folder using "Stuffit Expander" by Aladdin Systems (shareware, not included). If you received RenderBoy on a CD-ROM, your CD should contain all five folders. Otherwise, you can download the folders (or upgrade to the latest version of RenderBoy) from the official RenderBoy web site:

Which copy of RenderBoy should I run on my Mac?
There are three versions of RenderBoy for three different types of Macs.
• The PowerPC RenderBoy v2.0 application for PowerMac computers.
• The RenderBoy v2.0 application for older color 68K Macs without FPU's.
• The RenderBoy v2.0 application for older color 68K Macs with FPU's.
Not sure what kind of Mac you have? Here is how to tell.
If you have a MacOS clone, Power Macintosh, PowerPC Performa, or PowerPC laptop, you should run the "RenderBoy PPC (v2.0.x)" copy of RenderBoy. PowerPC computers from Apple usually say "PowerPC" on the front or have four digits in their model number: 6100, 7100, 8100, 6400, 7500, etc.
Otherwise you have a 68K Mac which may or may not have a floating point unit (FPU). If your Mac has an FPU, you should run the FPU version of RenderBoy, since it will run much faster. If your Mac does not have an FPU, you cannot run the FPU version because it will crash. Check your owners manual for the processor in your Mac, then look it up in this table.
The single user registration fee for RenderBoy is $25. This is a one time fee which includes all future versions of RenderBoy. For more info, please read the "Register Info" document included in the RenderBoy application folder.
Where do I report bugs or request enhancements?
If you find a software bug or desire an enhancement, I would appreciate you letting me know about it. You can email me at "PRybarczyk@aol.com". Please understand though that my email is not a help desk. If you have functionality questions, please refer to the "RenderBoy Documentation" folder. I sometimes don't have time to respond to all the email I get, but I promise that I do read all email carefully, especially bug reports and enhancement requests. Thanks for understanding.
Can I distribute RenderBoy to others?
The software...you bet! Your registration code...no. That would violate your shareware agreement. I want to continue to enhance RenderBoy, but I need your support in the form of registrations. Also, if you distribute RenderBoy to others, please don't break it apart. That is, distribute it in its compressed form so all the right pieces are included.
Also feel free to post RenderBoy on public bulletin boards, ftp sites, or web sites where other people can get free access to it. But please tell me, so I know where it is. That way I can refer others to it. And of course, post it in its compressed form, just as if you were distributing it to a friend.
If you wish to put RenderBoy on a commercial shareware CD-ROM, that can also be arranged, but please ask for my permission first. If we agree that you are selling the CD and not a license to the shareware on the CD, I'll nearly always say yes.
What is the revision history of RenderBoy
Please read the "Revision History" document included in the "RenderBoy Documentation" folder.
